Doug Harmelink started his career as a life insurance agent and registered representative in 1981 and spent over nine years in the field for Ameritas, providing financial advice for his clients. He took a position in the home office for Ameritas in marketing and left in 1992 joining the RE Lee Group as a brokerage manager and the registered principal of the OSJ for Ameritas Investment Corp.

In 1994 Harmelink started working at Mutual of Omaha as a regional sales VP and later as the VP of Life Brokerage. He left Mutual in 1998 and joined ReliaStar Life / ING as an RSVP working with BDs and BGAs with wholesale broker dealers.

Harmelink is a Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant.

In 2000 he started a firm called AdvancedMeetings (AM) with the mission to bring new communication technology to the insurance industry, with a particular focus on life brokerage. AM was an early partner with WebEx and brought web conferencing as a new communication tool to the market.

In 2009, to better reflect the services offerings, Advanced Communications & Conferencing (ACC) was incorporated and continues to provide audio, web and video conferencing services. In addition, ACC offers rich media on-demand; content development, warehousing, indexing and syndication services as well as streaming media.
