Netbriefings Webcasts St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman's State of the City Address
St. Paul, Minnesota - March 2, 2000 - Netbriefings, a full-service webcast technology provider that specializes in secure and large-audience Internet broadcasts, announced that on February 29 it successfully delivered the City of Saint Paul's first interactive Webcast (through the Internet). The broadcast of Saint Paul Mayor Norm Coleman's State of The City Address originated from the Omnitheater of the new Science Museum of Minnesota.
Netbriefings used integrated streaming digital video and audio, and provided interactive participation through moderated electronic messaging to deliver the Webcast. As a partner to Netbriefings in this interactive presentation, RSI Systems, Inc., of Minneapolis, Minnesota, furnished its MediaPro 384T videoconferencing systems to deliver the audio and video content from the Science Museum to Netbriefings's Webcast studio. This represents Netbriefings's first use of its technology to help local government since opening its Webcast studio earlier this year. According to the company, Mayor Coleman chose to Webcast his Address, in addition to broadcasting it through cable television, to link St. Paul to the technological community and to develop awareness of St. Paul's growing technology industry.
Tom Saylor, president of Netbriefings said, "As a technology company based in downtown St. Paul, we are proud to assist Mayor Coleman in his effort to promote the use of technology through example. Our Webcast of his address proves the viability of his vision to extend government communication through use of the Internet. We look forward to assisting him and the city of St.Paul in future communication events."
"This was the first event the City has broadcast to the world via the Internet," said Saint Paul Mayor Norm Coleman. "Based on its great success it is my goal to use this technology to improve and expand connections between the City, residents, businesses and the entire world. I am thrilled to have been able to work with a Saint Paul company to make this event happen. Netbriefings managed technical details for us and their expertise allowed us to focus on the content of the speech. This was a great experience for us and I look forward to working with Netbriefings on future projects."
The company has archived Mayor Coleman's Address to make viewing of the streaming media event available on its Web site for those who were unable to attend the live event. It can be seen by going to www.netbriefings.com and selecting Archives & Demos.
Although this is its initial Webcast of a local government event, Netbriefings has been Webcasting events for local business for several months and for the Minnesota High Tech Association for nearly two months.
